What does modern learning look like in Karaka

Workshops

The way these run isn't that different to reading or maths groups, the big difference is that students get some choice about which workshops they attend based on where they are at in their learning.

Reflection

This is a key part of our learning in Karaka.  To be able to reflect we need to know what what we have learned, what we still aren't sure about, and why our learning has or hasn't been successful.  This is a really tricky skill to learn how to do well, but it's super important.  Reflection helps us to consolidate our knowledge and more importantly, to know ourselves as learners.  That way we can work out how we can be the best we can be.  We're just setting up some websites to store some of our reflections.  Here is a photo of us getting stuck into those websites.

Collaboration

One of the best ways to ensure deep knowledge of something is to teach it, and we have 58 incredible teachers in Karaka.  Being able to work with a range of people, being brave enough to ask questions, being able to show leadership, being able to listen, these are all skills that are essential for our students now and in the future.  Check out some awesome examples of collaboration to make human insects!

Dance update

Check out the amazing dances that were shared at assembly!

Shoulder buddies

This week we got new shoulder buddies.  When we have questions, they are the first person to ask.  They help us work out what to do next.

Just dance!

We have been creating dances with our table teams.  We've been thinking about the elements of dance including level, energy, shapes and relationships.  Check out our moves.

Detextives at work

Check out these images of our CSI buddies working together to find clues in texts and making inferences.

If you're not sure exactly what making inferences means, watch this clip:
