After looking at seasons in inquiry today we quickly looked at this video.
It shows the endless sunshine during the summer months (at the North Pole).

Wow we've had a huge start to our Matariki inquiry.  Here's a taste of some of the things we've been up to:

Finding out about:
- stars and constellations
- seasons
- myths and legends
- how we celebrate
- Ki-o-rahi (a Māori game)
- Weaving using recycled objects

And it's only week 2!

Here are some photos of what we've been up to:

Sky map

If you'd like to do some star gazing at home, download "Sky map," which is an app you can get on android, i phones, i pads and chrome books.  When you point your phone to the sky, it can show you which stars, constellations and planets you are looking at.  You can also search for a particular constellation and it will direct you towards it.

Hopefully we'll get some cloudless nights soon and you can have a play with it!

Matariki

Today, we started our inquiry into Matariki. We visited Te Papa and explored aspects of Matariki, such as how they store food in a Paataka and how they ate raw fish on the journey to New Zealand. The stars were important as the Maori used them as a guide on their trip.

Then in the afternoon we broke into two groups and began some science exploration about stars and seasons.

Soccer tournament review

I was standing in the goal OH NO!
The other team tried to score but they missed. The whole team in glory. We were so happy. but then we  heard  Mike our coach call out THE GAME IS OVER. we were so proud. My team members were Ros, Minnie , Jas , Cara , Tara , Olivia , Lily , Ella , Amelie and Liv. The people in Hazel's team are Hazel , Casey , Charlotte, Peter , Anoka , Alexis,Immanuel  and others. It was super fun.

We did our soccer at wakefield park there was a few injuries it was horrible to watch.
When we weren't playing soccer we would sit on the grass next to our bags and wait for the next game. Most of the teams I played were easy but hazel's team played a few hard games. There were no winners or spot prizes to win put there was the glory of winning.

Ros’s Team play
At the end Mike my coach organised some more games for us to play. Most of the Crazies a.k.a Ros ,olivia ,Jas  ,Tara  ,Liv ,Minnie ,Lily  ,Ella and Cara went to cheer on the other clyde quay school teams but the year 6 boys weren't so happy when we went over
Here. Most teams tied on most of there games. My team won all their games and we scored 25 goals but sadly we let in 3 goals.

HAZEL’s team play
My team was awesome at playing because they had a try it was fun because my team scored lots of goals. Then charlotte said OMG  we’re  going  to win but then it was halftime  and then we got lunch I sat with my team  and  some of the younger boy’s.

When all clyde quay was finished there games we got our stuff picked up all the rubbish that was lying  on the floor and got a buddy hopped on the bus then tiptoed back into our classes to do the karakia then go home

THANK YOU ALL THE PARENTS THAT CAME TO HELPED
